Run Better and Relax

There is nothing that relieves more stress in my opinion than hitting the open road with me a bottle of cold water and my running shoes.  I love that when I am out running my mind can be clear and free from all of the thoughts that seem to nag at me and weigh in my mind throughout the entirety of a day.  When I am running there is not much that I really think about other than my breathing, so it is a great relaxation method for me.  With that said, I have a friend who has the opposite problem that I found out about just last week.

My close friend and I have never ran together.  We do not live incredibly close by, so it just did not make sense for either of us to have to drive somewhere to run together.  Last week though she happened to be staying with her brother who lives right down the road from me, and we decided taking a run would be fun for us to do.  One morning we laced up our shoes and trekked out my door for our run.  My friend is quite the talker, and I found out that even while she is running this holds true.  I also discovered that instead of relaxing her mind on a run, she has thoughts whizzing past in her brain the whole time.  This was not my idea of fun.  When we got back to my home, I tried to figure out the deal.

Apparently running is my dear friend’s only time to be alone and think, so she crams in all of her thoughts and worries into a run.  Imagine how much better she would be able to run if she would simply free her mind.  We talked about this and she agreed.  I recommended some incense and herbs that could calm her prior to a run, which you can find at legalherbsdirect.com for your own use.  I am a firm believer that there is always a time and a place for everything.  While running, that is surely not the time to worry over finances or kids so I also recommended my friend start keeping a journal for all of her thoughts that she used to have while running.

It has only been a few days using my suggestions, and my friend has already shaved some time off her running time.  As a runner, you’ve got to love that!
