If you asked most people why they struggle with losing weight and eating healthy, many would respond by saying that they do not have the proper tools or knowledge to get started. In the past I would recommend that people track everything they eat. On top of keeping track of food, making note of workouts is also important. These daily food journals and workout logs would overwhelm many people though. It was just something else to keep up with. Now there is a new way to keep track of both your food and exercise and find encouragement from others who are looking to lose the weight and keep it off. It is a tool called My Fitness Pal. This is an online food and exercise journal that you can find at myfitnesspal.com. There is also a phone app available that allows you to take it on the go. So how does it work?
- Tracking your food has never been so easy. After you set up your goals my answering questions about yourself, My Fitness Pal will let you know your recommend caloric requirements. That will give you a basis of how much you should be eating to lose, gain, or maintain. To enter food you type in what you have eaten in the search bar and for most foods you will find the nutritional information has already been entered for you. Place the food in your category (ie. breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack) and it deducts the calories as well as other important things. Count carbs, protein, cholesterol, and more with this food journal to keep you on track. Keeping up with your workouts is just as simple.
- Most workouts are in the exercise database, and you can enter it in to see how many calories you burned. This amount you burned is then added to your goal for calories to ensure you are consuming a healthy amount of food. Tracking your food and workouts is not all you can do though.
- My Fitness Pal is also a way to network with other people trying to live a healthier lifestyle. There are forums and blogs that you might find helpful and inspiring. When you are trying to reach a goal it can be easier when you have support whether it is in person or online.
