Keep Up The Routine

It is pretty safe to say that most people have yo-yo exercised.  You know what I mean, right?  You have some kind of event coming up where you want to be in shape and look good or it is a new year and you want to attempt to create a new body, but after a certain time or the event has passed you go right back into your typical lackadaisical ways.  Sometimes you might not even reach your goal  and yet you quit working out and exercising to get there because you get frustrated.  Then a few months later you might get back into the game and start up a new workout routine again.  Now you might think that this is completely harmless for your body, but it might be doing more harm than good.   In what ways can yo-yo exercising hurt you?

Sleep Better Tonight

For some people dozing off into a nice eight hour slumber is super easy.  They will sleep through the night with no distractions and nothing causing them to stir.  Then there are people like me who have a hard time unwinding and hitting the sack.  Waking up to use the bathroom or because of a slight noise is a nightly occurrence and nothing seems to work to get me back to sleep.  Recently I realized that I was just trying one tip a night and that if I were doing all that I should, then I would probably get some good rest in each night.  I have tried out the below tips and I must say, so far so good.

A Look At My Fitness Pal

If you asked most people why they struggle with losing weight and eating healthy, many would respond by saying that they do not have the proper tools or knowledge to get started.  In the past I would recommend that people track everything they eat.  On top of keeping track of food, making note of workouts is also important.  These daily food journals and workout logs would overwhelm many people though.  It was just something else to keep up with.  Now there is a new way to keep track of both your food and exercise and find encouragement from others who are looking to lose the weight and keep it off.  It is a tool called My Fitness Pal.  This is an online food and exercise journal that you can find at myfitnesspal.com.  There is also a phone app available that allows you to take it on the go.  So how does it work?

Migraine with Aura

The first time I had an ocular migraine, it terrified me.  I didn’t know about them, and began having symptoms rather suddenly.  The main symptom of an ocular migraine is a “squiggly lights in your field of vision” experience. You first see a small, enlarging blind spot called a scotoma in your main vision accompanied by bright, flashing or flickering lights known as scintillations. There may also be wavy or zig-zag lines surrounding the blind spot, which is what I have. The blind spot typically grows over a period of 8-10 minutes, until you can’t see something you look at straight on, and your peripheral vision is impaired by the lights.

Take a Stand

My health is very important to me.  I like the fact that I make sure that I have the time and give the effort to eating healthy, exercising regularly, and doing other things like yearly physicals to make certain that I am in the best shape that I can be.  Recently though I found out that my job is causing me serious harm.  Why?  Because I sit for the majority of my day in one spot.  It is obvious that sitting is not the best for your body or health, especially compared to standing, but who knew that it was creating some serious health risks that I can no longer just ignore?  If you are forced to sit stuck in your office chair for hours on end, you might be having some sit-related issues going on too.  Find out how sitting is causing you harm, and take a stand.

Average American Runner

Running is a healthy way to improve cardiovascular function, increase your stamina, and strengthen your heart and other muscles.  When practiced correctly, the risk of injuries due to stress fractures and muscle strains or sprains is very low, and the benefits nearly always outweigh any small risks.  Running is also an inexpensive exercise to take part in, requiring only a good pair of well-fitting running shoes and a pedometer to get started.

Interval Training in Ten Minutes

Some people dread dragging themselves to the gym, whether early in the morning before the sun rises or late at night after a mind numbing day at the office.  Making time for your workouts, especially if you have a busy and complicated life that involves juggling your career, family, and friends, can truly be next to impossible.  But what if someone told you  that you could benefit from working out as a 10 minute trainer, or taking up basic interval training that allows you to condense more workout into less time and still get into shape?  If you are like most of us, you would jump at that opportunity.

Easy Home Exercises

Everyone has dreams of becoming healthier and maybe even dropping a few pounds, but it is pretty impossible to find the time day in and day out to make it to the gym and get a solid workout accomplished.  Some days it is not even possible to get in a full workout no matter what you do.  The fact is that you know you will feel better if you get in a workout and your body will be happier and fitter too.  So, what I do when I have those crazy days when I cannot make it to the gym and feel like I have absolutely no time to get in a good workout?  I workout from home by doing quick full body workouts.

Run Better and Relax

There is nothing that relieves more stress in my opinion than hitting the open road with me a bottle of cold water and my running shoes.  I love that when I am out running my mind can be clear and free from all of the thoughts that seem to nag at me and weigh in my mind throughout the entirety of a day.  When I am running there is not much that I really think about other than my breathing, so it is a great relaxation method for me.  With that said, I have a friend who has the opposite problem that I found out about just last week.

Richard Simmons, Role Model?

I have quite a few role models when it comes to being a healthy person and exercising regularly.  Honestly, I think it is far too difficult for people to keep on working toward a health or fitness goal when they do not have inspiration or role models to look up to.  Some of my role models include Lance Armstrong, Rodney Yee, and Serena Williams.  I do have one role model that only one of my closest friends knows about, but I guess it’s time to spill the beans…I look up to Richard Simmons.  I know it sounds so silly, but the man is impressive, let’s face it.  Those silly routines and the help that he has provided so many throughout the years proves that he is a true inspiration.
